400;\">Origins of race and racism<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During this module participants are provided the opportunity to explore the 500 year story of race and racism. The participants are also exposed to the ongoing justifications of racism, and the driving factors that have allowed racism to continue.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Redefining racism<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this module participants are encouraged to critically examine their own definition and understanding of racism. Participants will be introduced to a range of perspectives and insights into multiple meanings of racism and be challenged to build consensus within their group around a shared definition of racism that can be taken back to their workplaces.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dimensions of racism<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IndigenousX along with the participants will interrogate the understanding of racism by looking at 4 dimensions of racism and the intersection and interplay of these dimensions.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identifying and responding to racism<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emphasising that there is no one correct way to respond to racism, IndigenousX will guide the participants through some strategies to identify and respond to racism, at individual, interpersonal and institutional levels.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anti-racism principles<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anti-racism is more than a value set, it should be considered a skill set. In this session IndigenousX will show that at all times Indigenous people have been involved in resistance, advocacy and activism. It can also have significant negative impacts on policy development and implementation. This session introduces the concept of deficit discourse, how to recognise it and how to avoid it. In this session IndigenousX will show that at all times Indigenous people have been involved in resistance, advocacy and activism.
